Google has been adding new features to Maps and a recent report has confirmed that the search engine giant is testing the traffic light feature for the app in a limited region. Now, it seems that the company is expanding the feature for more regions. Android Police reported that the functionality has now also appeared on Galaxy S20+ and other Google Maps users in particular regions.
The feature is currently limited to the US region only and is a part of server-side rollout. So, there’s no way to manually update the app and get the feature unless Google makes the changes from the server itself.
The feature was first spotted by Droid-Life where a reader sent them a few screenshots that show traffic light details. According to the screenshots posted by Droid-Life which was shared by their reader who lives in West Des Moines shows traffic lights detail in several parts of the city and the lights can be seen in both regular maps mode as well as while navigating. Though, this might only be limited to the Android version of the app for now.
Google further confirmed this to The Verge about testing the traffic light details for Google Maps in select US regions. Back then the feature was only available for a portion of New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and other cities.
