It’s that time of the year when the rumour mill goes into overdrive about the next iPhone. While it still remains unclear whether Apple will launch its flagship iPhone in September this year or not but that hasn’t stopped leaks and rumours to surface routinely. The latest rumour that has been doing the rounds is about Apple not giving a charger with iPhone 12.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, Apple is surveying iPhone users about what they do with their chargers when they buy a new iPhone. The report cites an email received by a user where Apple had asked a series of questions. “The survey includes a series of checkboxes with multiple possibilities on how consumers use their iPhone chargers,” states the report.
The checkboxes include: “I sold or traded it with my iPhone; I lost it; I gave it to a family member or friend; I still use it at home; I still use it outside (at work, school, or other places); I still have it, but I don’t use it.” The idea seems to be to gauge what people do with their old chargers when they purchase a new iPhone.
The survey — or any other iPhone 12 rumour for that matter — should be taken with a pinch of salt. For the uninitiated, Apple had conducted a similar survey regarding the headphone jack for MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro still comes with a headphone jack, even though Apple removed it from the iPhone. So it’s not certain that a survey regarding the charger means that Apple will stop shipping it.
The charger rumour started after reliable Apple analyst Ming Chi-Kuo mentioned it in a research note. Kuo said that iPhone 12 won’t ship with a charger nor it will have the EarPods, the wired headphones that are bundled in the box.
Another charger-related rumour doing the rounds is that Apple could ship a 20W charger with iPhone 12. So as we said these are all just rumours at the moment but it will be interesting to see if Apple really dumps the charger with the iPhone 12.
