Xiaomi teases launch of new device to turn TV into a Smart TV

Chinese consumer electronics brand Xiaomi has teased the launch of a new device for the Indian market that is said to turn a non-smart TV into a smart one. The company has posted about the same on social media platform Twitter.
“LAUNCHING SOON – The fire your TV has been missing. All you gotta do is ‘plug it, make it smart’ to experience entertainment like never before,” reads the tweet.
The post also includes a link to Xiaomi’s dedicated microsite that confirms that the launch is set to take place on August 5 at 12 pm. The website also has a ‘Notify me’ option for those who are interested in being updated about the device.

As per the microsite, it can be assumed that the company is planning to launch the Mi TV Stick in India, which was recently launched in Europe at UR 39.99 (approximately Rs 3,500).
This Mi TV Stick comes with a remote control that offers support for voice controls, Google Assistant support as well as Chromecast. It is said to offer support for fullHD display resolution as well.
Back in May, Xiaomi launched Mi Box 4K at Rs 3,499 in India. The Mi TV Stick is thereof expected to be priced lower than this.
Just this week, e-commerce site Flipkart also teased the launch of a Nokia branded device that also turns any TV into a smart TV. This upcoming hardware device has been teased to come with Chromecast built-in, Android 9 Pie, Google Assistant support and OTT apps support.
There is no confirmation of the launch date of this device as of now.
